This is very exciting news for downtown Pittsburgh! I strongly support and admire the design team efforts to incorporate the perks of Forbes ave in the architecture of this new theater. This is also a great way to integrate the young theater community into the downtown Oakland community and will hopefully attract more attention to young artists. this will also bring young artists together! Forbes avenue connects a lot of Pittsburgh residencies and young college students because of the fast food, restaurants, and shopping on Forbes avenue; the new building will attract attention and spark an interest in theater in passers by which will further connect our community through something the greater community may not be as familiar with. And because I am also a young student of theater, a new theater is particularly exciting for me!

This is a huge, important move for Point Park University for a number of reasons. First, it just makes sense with the PNC construction and addition to Market Square, two things that have really revitalized downtown Pittsburgh specifically. Market Square used to perhaps deter people from going to that area in the 1970’s but with the renovation completed in 2010, it changed the game. People went to the city as a destination, for something to do, not as a chore. And I think that the same thing may happen with relocation of the Playhouse. Point Park recently began a renovation to multiple parts of its campus, and since the performing arts program there is one of the best components, I think it was a smart move to bring it closer to the actual university campus and tie it more to Point Park as a whole. Finally, these choices were not only the right to decision, in regard to relocation, but they are doing it in a proper way; restoring the facades and preserving the surrounding buildings. I hope that this relocation is one that helps Point Park and the downtown area in becoming the area it is hoping for.
