Point Park lifts curtain on new Pittsburgh Playhouse Project

Point Park University: Get ready for a new stage at Point Park University.

President Paul Hennigan presided over a gathering of invited guests and the media on Thursday, Dec. 4, to unveil the designs of Point Park's new Pittsburgh Playhouse, which will be located on Forbes Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh.

“We believe the new Pittsburgh Playhouse will be a game-changer for Downtown Pittsburgh,” Hennigan said. “Not only will the new facility be a dynamic learning environment for students in our Conservatory of Performing Arts, it will allow their creative process to be an integral part of the Downtown experience.”

I think this will be a great addition to downtown Pittsburgh. It is always exciting for a theatre to be able to renovate or build a new space. From what I have heard about the Pittsburgh Playhouse, it was due for this. I have never seen a show there, and I know that most of the people around me could say the same thing. Maybe that will change. A new space attracts more attention and gets more butts in seats. This will probably also increase the number of people who apply to Point Park's program. When considering a theatre program, the space you are going to get to work in is a factor. Incoming college students looking to major in theatre would rather work in a nice, new space with good equipment than an old one that needs repairs.
