Making Waves: Adaptive Concert Sound For Imelda May Stateside

Pro Sound Web: Irish rockabilly artist Imelda May has been making waves in the U.S. ever since her memorable guest appearance with guitarist Jeff Beck at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

Since then she’s been touring hard, most recently playing a string of shows backed by her 4-piece band from Providence, RI to San Francisco and numerous points between.

It is interesting to read articles about touring life, specifically life on a smaller tour that doesn't have the money to travel with a big rig of its own so it has to work with the rigs that are available for it. Being that this is the type of gig that I will most likely be getting on in my early career on tour it is really fulfilling to know that these smaller tours still often get good systems to run shows on. I often worry that once I get into the touring business I will be faced with dealing with jerry rigged systems that I will need to troubleshoot for hours and barely get an adequate sound check in. Though it seems that this is not something that will really hinder the process all that much due to not having to load a huge rig in an empty venue.
