A Look At The Twitter #Music Website That Never Launched

⚙ Co.Labs ⚙ code + community: Twitter's introduction of the "Audio Card" last week makes it easy to forget that Twitter #Music was at one time a separate app, and the company's cornerstone attempt to harness one of its most consistently popular topics of conversation: music.

An entirely separate site devoted to Twitter music sounds a little bit like overkill to me (Twitter itself is pretty unnecessary as it is), but the idea of using trends on the site to figure out which artists will become popular is a pretty interesting idea. I think it was probably a good move to incorporate that into the existing site rather than creating the new one though, since people are probably not motivated to use a completely different site for something that is a fairly niche interest (I would expect most people to generally be more concerned with what is already popular, and not put too much risk into what only might be). However, I would definitely be interested in seeing whether or not the prediction algorithms for things like Hunted and Wonder are accurate, and if so, to what degree.
