We rarely think much about paints and color matching in theatre. We often just mix up our paints and not worry about matching in the future. I don’t know how paints for trade shows and amusement parks typically work, but I would assume that they are often concerned about color being true to the brand and durable, as well as being color that are available without mixing, even years into the future.
Scenic paint typically comes in pretty stable colors, but is often mixed with other colors to achieve the look that is desired. Perhaps we should find a way to standardize the measure and mixing technique of these paints so they have a color stability similar to automotive paints.
