Seven Signs You're Too Smart For Your Job

Liz R. | LinkedIn: My dogs Mojo and Magic are small dogs in a big-dog town. They behave like most small dogs. When we come home, they're overwhelmed by the awesomeness of our return and go crazy. After a few minutes they turn into cats and fall asleep on the arm of the chair. Naturally, they have to protect the household, so if there's any disturbance in the neighborhood -- say, for instance, that a squirrel napping in his nest two houses away turns in his sleep -- Mojo and Magic will bark their heads off.

This article puzzles me. I want to put it out there at the beginning of this comment is that everything happens for a reason. I bring this up because maybe there is a reason that you haven't figured out yet. However, is it good or bad that you are too smart for your job? On one hand when your too smart for your job it makes the job nice and easy. On the the other hand, it could make the job really boring. I think it is all in the way that you look at it.

I will admit, I am slightly confused about this article. I have a feeling people could take it and say "Well, darn it! I am way too smart for this here job I have... I ought to complain and get a better job!" For example, the intern. Being an intern a few years for many many different people, I've learned that I will get the grunt work that nobody wants. Why do you think they have interns!? Most interns are capable of doing more than just getting coffee and making scans for their boss! But that's the position they have to start off with! You may be too smart but you need to start somewhere... the articles not telling you to quit!!! THEN WHERE IS IT GOING? I don't think it's a good idea to get into people's heads that they are worth more than what they're doing. Sometimes people are way too smart and should be doing something else. But everyone has their reasons for doing this and that and for working this and that job.

I have been bored, uninspired, and just plain disdainful towards many jobs that I had even though I would always give 100% to every task. I didn't look at it like "I am too good for this job... how dare they!" I sort of looked at it like a stepping stone, experience, and well, let's be honest here, bragging rights! If you hate your job, then you should probably leave and look for a new one but if you think your just too smart for your job, reevaluate yourself and why you have that job before you start sticking your nose up in the air.
