Is Live Entertainment an Industry?

Selling Out: I might be the only person who refers to “live entertainment” as an industry. Most people I deal with professionally say that they’re in the concert industry, professional sports, theater, arts or something specific like that. So I’m the oddball when I say that live entertainment, meaning all of these diverse things, is an industry that has important shared considerations across all of these.

This article makes a very prominent point. It is crucial that the live entertainment industry consider itself to be so. We stick together in a way that is evident of our success. This industry is clearly made up of so many genres. Each one has some of its own characteristics; however, more importantly, each shares a large pool of characteristics with the others. They all are live. They all are for the entertainment of the audience. That is where the name live entertainment comes from. I think that if we forget that we are all together in this, we could potentially loose some of the great parts of these genres. Like the article states, if we cannot adapt the field as a group than we are likely to loose entire parts of our field, parts that are such a big part of us today. This is not something that I want to see happen. The industry today is so divided. We must also bring the industry closer together to elongate the life of our field. Personnel in our field should experience each genre of the industry, so if the time comes that we get shaken up, we are ready.
