Super-sized 'Jesus Christ Superstar' arena tour comes to Pittsburgh in August

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The concert and theater worlds collide in what’s being billed as the biggest North American arena tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” coming to Consol Energy Center Aug. 12.
The Tim Rice-Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera will feature Incubus lead singer Brandon Boyd as Judas, JC Chasez (NSync) as Pontius Pilate, Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child) as Mary Magdalene and John Rotten Lydon (Sex Pistols) as King Herod. Ben Forster, who won England’s ITV “Superstar” competition in 2012, will reprise the lead role of Jesus that he has played in the UK and Australian arena tours.

I have never seen this show, but I really, really want to. It seems like one of the few musicals who have actually mastered its own style (the mesh between musical and rock styles) which cannot be said for other famous musicals. Spring Awakening for example generally teeters on the line between musical and rock. I have mainly seen this identity crisis in the lighting of the production.

On the first note, I think a large arena like he energy center is going to make an epic space for an epic live performance.
