What’s Going on With the Mean Girls Musical?

Vulture: Back in October, Tina Fey told Vulture that she was exploring the idea of turning her classic teen comedy Mean Girls into a Broadway musical, and when we caught up with Fey's husband, Jeff Richmond, last night at the premiere of Fey's new film Admission, he had some heartening news to report. "It's actually becoming a thing!" said Richmond, who scored 30 Rock and will be writing the new Mean Girls tunes.

In order to make such a successful movie such as Mean Girls into a musical, it needs time. I will wait as long as I have to. I don't want them to rush this and create something subpar. I'm looking forward for them to keep a lot of the original dialogue, only because it's so iconic. Eliminating it for the sake of lyrics would really change the dynamic of the entity that is Mean Girls. Tina Fey is a great writer and a really positive role model. I freaking love this movie, and if they mess it up, I will be disappointed in her. I'm putting all my trust in Ms. Fey. Bring it on.

I am freaking out right now, Mean Girls the Musical, there is nothing about this that I do not like! It will be hard to turn an incredibly popular movie into a good Broadway musical but if anyone can do it Tina Fey can. I also like the idea mentioned in the article about turning fetch into a song and Damiens character getting some songs, these should be some incredible numbers. Keeping it along the lines of the movie while turning it into a musical will be a challenge but if it is successful the show will be a hit.

So, I love Tina Fey and I love the movie "Mean Girls" but I wonder what it would be like as a musical. (I mean we all do, that was the point of this article) I know that when "Legally Blond" the musical came out, I thought it was going to be pretty bad and to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it. It was fun and really just a good time kind of musical, I mean, it wasn't brilliant but it was good! I personally don't really like how everyone is just taking movies and/or celebrities and making musicals out of them because they know that people will go see them. I like it when they take a book or just something from their imagination a create a whole story! Even people in the industry admit to wanting to wring whatever they can out of past successes! I don't know... (I'm also thinking about film too...) Who knows, and since it is Tina Fey, it is probably going to be amazing!!
