New Interactive Art Coming to Market Square

Blogh | Pittsburgh City Paper: “Congregation” will be the North American debut of work by the internationally famed British artists known as KMA. KMA principals Kit Monkman and Tom Wexler will shortly be in town to set up the extensive rigging.
The exhibit is the first project of the Market Square Public Art Program, a three-year initiative of the City of Pittsburgh Department of City Planning’s Public Art Division and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.

This super exciting! I think that projection technology often lends itself really well to physical interaction, and this exhibit/event should be a great example of that. I think that this installation really has the potential to create a place of connection and community, especially in a place like Market Square. I love that people will probably not only interact with the projections and the video but also the people around them.
Although I thought that the duck was stupid, it had at least the advantage of rallying people around one thing. I think that this project will do that too, except this time it will actually be art and hopefully not just big merch deal.

I’m so happy to see an art installation like this is coming to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh embrace of the arts, at least in recent years, is incredible and I have been very impressed so far. It is interesting to note that 2 of the 3 art installations at the festival of firsts this year were projection-based. I also love that it is on such a large scale and will be interactive. I can’t wait to go!

I'm excited to see what this is like. I haven't even made it to downtown Pittsburgh yet so this will definitely give me a reason to trek out there. I've become more and more interested in installation artwork after working on Basic Design projects. I absolutely love the way that they just bring everyone together and can spark interest in anyone.

This interactive installation sounds like a pretty cool piece of public art. I would like to go over to the Market Square and take a look at it. Interactive projects are something that I'm interested in and I would like to know more about it. I don't think that this article is written very well though. For example the article didn't show very many photos, and it didn't link to the video that it talked about. I don't think the writer described the projections very well and this made it hard for me to understand what type of art piece this was. I'm left with many questions about this public art and very few answers.

This installation sounds pretty amazing. It sounds like a good way for people to come together and be inspired. However, I agree with Akiva in that this article was not very well written. In thinking about this installation I have high hopes and expectations for it. It's giant interactive art! I do wish that the article could have put more pictures or the video though. I am definitely looking forward to heading out to see it nonetheless!

I find it very interesting when artists transform a public space into something that people are not use to seeing. I found the concept of this design to be intriguing by having a simple space become an interactive exhibit for the community to come together and interact in this space. This art installation is going to be a huge hit among children and families. When the weather gets warm again I can see people crowded in Market Square playing around. This installation reminds me of the fountains in Montreal where the community comes together in the evening to relax and decompress. A small addition can make a huge impact and I'm excited to see what kind of reaction this gets.
