Imaginations: CMU Team Wins Top Honors in Disney Competition

Faculty & Staff News - Carnegie Mellon University: Carnegie Mellon students used their imagination to create an intercontinental experience truly worthy of Disneyland.
Their idea earned them the top prize in Walt Disney Imagineering's "Imaginations" competition.
For this year's competition, teams were tasked with selecting a large, densely populated urban environment and designing an experience for the enjoyment of its residents and visitors.

This is so cool. I am so lucky to attend a school like CMU where there is so much passion in what people are doing. Not very many people can say they go to a school where everyone that surrounds them is so driven and needs to be doing what they are doing.

The prompt of this competition is super interesting, and the CMU students' entry is really lovely. The back story that they created for the event is sweet and compelling, very much like a fairy tale. The "Antipode Festival" is such an interesting way to fulfill the prompt, and I just love thinking about that idea.
What I like about this is that it goes to show just how non-prescribed and varied the role of an Imagineer is. It's such a fascinating mix of storytelling, event planning, engineering, performance, understanding group mentality... I think that this competition is a great way to show that and help students work on unconventional projects. It's awesome to see that CMU does so well in these competitions. Yay us!

First things first, I must say that I'm proud to be a SigEp. Both Matt and John are brothers and are extremely marvelous individuals. Their minds are unlike any other and they both constantly create. John Brieger, who I know better, is constantly looking for new solutions and not a minute goes by in a day when he isn't looking for a way to create. He'll go from developing new games in the house, to creating new projects for class, and designing outstanding games and designs for booth. On top of that, I must say, I'm extremely honored to go to school with all four of these students and call two of them brothers. Their concept seems extremely intriguing and I would love the opportunity to experience this festival first hand.
