Safety Training is Overrated
Occupational Health & Safety: Before I get pummeled by every safety manager, trainer, and supervisor, let me explain why safety training is overrated. It is not because safety training isn't important, it's precisely because it is so important that it needs to change.

After learning about safety training in 30 Hour OSHA, I have to agree with this article. Although companies may feel like they are being less proactive by covering less topics, they are definitely being more proactive by really making sure their employees understand what they have been trained in. In far too many cases, someone gets hurt in the workplace and OSHA asks the employer if the hurt employee was trained. If the employer says "yes," OSHA's response will be "Well then not good enough." Training in the workplace, especially in industries such as construction, is essential. It is not enough for employers to train their employees and then check it off of the list of things they need to do in order to legally protect themselves. It is the employers responsibility to make sure the employee has been trained, and after their training is informed and educated enough to perform in the workplace without hurting themselves or others.
Sounds like the author has a good point. Plenty of times in class, not just here, I was presented with information that I understood and comprehended at the time, but washed over my head later. It seems like having a followup session on the same safety knowledge would be a good way to keep the information fresh!
