Grad student school kit

story645.kinja.com: Having gone through a bag a year and feeling like my back was on fire, I figured a quality messenger bag was worth the investment. I ended up with a Mission Workshop Rummy 'cause the guy at the shop rec'ed it and I like that it's low key.

This article has the potential to be something insightful, but instead it's meager and simple. It's on the right track, but it's missing a lot of things. Furthermore, what makes it special for Grad students? I don't see the connection with the items he carries and his education. Also, does he not bring pens with him to school? Why? What about a travel sewing kit? I feel that he's missing at lot of essential school-kit things.

I hoped this article would be useful, because I'm semi-obsessed with making kits and carrying around everything I could possibly need in any situation. However, there's really not that much useful information in here, and a lot of omissions of things I'd assume are pretty essential. For example, why didn't they include any actual notebooks or pens? In many situations they're more convenient than opening up an entire computer. I'd also like to know why they chose this specific bag to help their back, since I know messenger bags are harder on my back than traditional backpacks. I was also pretty irritated by the use of "'cause" instead of typing out the word "because" (it's only two extra letters!), because it made the article as a whole sound like the author didn't really know what they were talking about. If they're really a grad student, they might want to clean up their writing style a bit.

This really isn't all that specific to grad students, and I don't think it's all that complete.

Things I've needed coming to grad school:

Battery Operated Phone Charger
Pallet of Mountain Dew
Pallet of Cigarettes
Fileing Cabinet
Pro-Grade Printer (w/ 11x17 Support)

I find that this article might be more useful if it referenced some EDC (every day carry) kits. EDC stuff has been the most useful for me in grad school.
