Review: 'Anything Goes' a charming, first-class voyage

TribLIVE: After a season of musicals such as “War Horse,” “The Book of Mormon” and “Green Day's American Idiot” that gave our aesthetic senses an aerobic workout, the PNC Broadway Across America — Pittsburgh series concludes with the musical-theater equivalent of a revitalizing soak in a Jacuzzi. The national touring production of “Anything Goes,” fizzes and soothes as you submerge yourself in this highly entertaining 1935 Cole Porter musical.

"This is a first-class voyage you shouldn't miss." I couldn't agree more. I had the great pleasure of seeing Anything Goes when it came to the Pantages in Hollywood over winter break, and I was definitely blown away by Rachel York's performance and the polished look of the whole show. One part that stood out in particular was the Bluebird song, in which a small blue spotlight was used as the "bluebird," flitting from hand to hand throughout the song. The costumes were wonderful, the singing and dancing impeccable, and all-around extremely well done. It was a pleasure to see and deserves all the high praise and rave reviews that come its way.

I have to agree with Emma I saw this production last year. I saw a friend performing in it and it has a great story behind it. I am such a fan of revivals of shows and I think this one worked as a revival. I would love to see this show especially with the updates and the awards it has received. I also think it is great that someone from Pittsburgh was the choreographer in this musical. It always surprises me how many people in the art world are from Pittsburgh.

Anything Goes is truly, like they said in the article, a revitalizing soak in the jacuzzi. I was luckily able to see it on broadway with sutton foster and would do anything to see the show again. the choreography definitely deserved that tony and so did the show itself. it's a classic that can have the characters interpreted a little bit differently which is great and it's just a true gem of a show. I wish I had been able to see it while here to see what changes the show has had to make for the sake of making the show able to travel.
