Call Recording - Welcome Evernote Users!

Call Trunk: Calltrunk is like the email of voice communications. It enables you to record all your conversations on any device and store them securely in the cloud, in a single account. This means you have a searchable record of every important conversation and decision-making process. It's the perfect tool to get even more out of Evernote.

I have extremely mixed feelings about this new piece of technology:

On one hand, recording all of your conversations and making them searchable is a very valuable way to stimulate memory and enhance record keeping. The search function that allows you to see within a conversation when terms appear is a HUGE technological breakthrough that points towards much bigger search and indexing changes on the horizon.

At the same time, this new technology worries me. First, recording and searching through your conversations takes a lot of time to find a small piece of information. Learning how to discern what is essential information from any given conversation, and then remembering to act on that information, is a very important skill. This CallTrunk seems to undermine that slightly. I also have a huge ethics problem with recording, word for word, every conversation that I ever made- my expectation is that if someone were recording a conversation with me, they would ask for my permission first, and usually I'd be very hesitant to give it. So, unless you record every single conversation (i.e. everyone gives you permission), then there are holes in the system, making it much less useful as an information tool.
