Preview: Stars add to local roots of 'Flashdance'

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Thirty years after the film "Flashdance" had us dancing to chart-topping songs such as "What a Feeling" and "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," the '80s are coming back, this time in the form of "Flashdance -- The Musical." The world-premiere national tour launches New Year's Day in Pittsburgh, where the movie was filmed, and a second company heads to Broadway next year.

What?! This is all I want. I am so happy to read that this is finally happening. I've gotta admit, when researching Pittsburgh before deciding on Carnegie, the fact that Flashdance took place here was a giant positive for me. I think it's lovely that the National Tour is going to begin in the city it was birthed from.

On another note, I hope that this musical stays true to the film and doesn't add too much unnecessary music. Im also confused as to why there are two seperate companies going uot into the world presenting the same show. I thought that, generally, shows opened and closed on Broadway and then went on National Tour. I feel skeptical as to the success of the tour when the show hasn't made a name for itself yet.
