Colony Theatre in Burbank faces dire budgetary shortfall

latimes.com: The Colony Theatre in Burbank is facing the possibility of imminent closure if the company isn't able to resolve a budgetary shortfall, leaders announced over the weekend. They said the 37-year-old company has run out of money and needs to raise $49,000 in the next two weeks and $500,000 by the end of the calendar year in order to remain open. The Colony, which produces contemporary and classic plays and musicals, operates a 268-seat theater in the Burbank Town Center mall.

I'm wondering if it would have made a difference if the company could have tried to change its mission statement and they type of productions they were doing to draw in more of an audience. I'm also wondering what the rest of the season is and how much it balances out. Maybe they could try smaller show that would need less resources. It saddens me to say it might be too late for this company.

This should have been categorized under calamity. This is happening all too often and it only solicited one comment before this. Well done Dev. The small theatre is in trouble. The large theatre is in trouble too. This corresponds with the article that college students want to make lots of money and we at the Carnegie School of Drama are all theatre people bent on practicing and truth be told, theatre is getting less and less profitable. I do not know the solution. If I did I would run for president. Is it too late?
