An Exclusive Look at the Stunning Concept Art Behind Cloud Atlas' Future Seoul

io9.com: The most dazzling aspect of Cloud Atlas is probably the vision of near-future Korea, the city of Neo-Seoul. Glittery and dystopian, Neo-Seoul sits next to the sunken ruins of the original Seoul, with slums side by side with shining ribbons and flying cars. But if anything, the original concept art for Neo-Seoul looks even cooler. Check out an exclusive look, right here. And you should definitely click to enlarge these images, which look best at full screen.

Reading Mr. Hull's recount of his experience with the Wachowski siblings excites me. The kind of working relationship he describes is the sort of collaboration I crave in a design process. I'm happy to discover that the Wachowskis - directors who work on large-scale, high-budget films - chose to engage deeply and critically in conversations concerning the concept art for their film. As this article points out, so many directors could easily just hand off the task of creating a futuristic city to the art department, but instead the Wachaowskis have actively shaped the world in which their story takes place. Ultimately, these kind of collaborative processes breed better art, which I find evident throughout all of Cloud Atlas.
