Pittsburgh City Paper: It was an unhappy but instructive moment for Andrew Paul. The Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre artistic director was in another city, watching a production of Three Sisters, by his favorite playwright, Anton Chekhov. But the show was "deadly dull." Late in the play, when one sister said, "I am so bored," Paul recalls, "the whole audience started applauding."
"That," Paul says, "is how not to do Chekhov."

It is great to see that someone is reviving such a classic playwright. It is even better to see someone do justice to the pieces laid before him. As stated in the article, Chekhov wrote comedies. Even if they are hard to see through all the challenges faced by the characters, the pieces are comedies. They are meant to be full of life and vigor, not boring and depressing as such people have tried to make it. The audience is not supposed to know that its a tragedy, they are supposed to think its funny until they get the full story. The PICT has seemed to get the plays right and I hope they don't fail like others have.
