Conflict Kitchen awarded $25,000 to catalyze new downtown Pittsburgh location

The Sprout Fund: To celebrate its first 10 years of grantmaking, and through the support of The Benter Foundation, The Sprout Fund has supported Conflict Kitchen with a Root Award of $25,000. Only offered to former Seed Award winners, the Root Award builds on a project’s previous successes and enhance the sustainability of the project. The Root Award has been offered only twice before: in 2007 to the Zany Umbrella Circus for their Zany Tent, and in 2008 to Bike Pittsburgh for their Bike Friendly Employer program.

I think that this is a wonderful idea for a restaurant. Conflict kitchen provides tasty food and also cause thought. I would be interested to see what sort of food is served there and how often it changes. I would also like to know more about why they were chosen to receive the root award and even why they received the seed award. I will have to check out Conflict kitchen once it has moved to its new home.

I'm very proud of the Conflict Kitchen for getting this award! I've eaten here while it was focusing on Argentina as it's "conflict country" and really enjoyed eating their food and talking with them about their mission. If anyone deserves a Root Award from The Sprout Fund, it's Conflict Kitchen. I feel like people can get so satisfied with living their lives here in the US and being ignorant about what's going on abroad. By marrying food (which almost everyone here actively enjoys) and awareness of other nations, we can grow to learn more about the world around us.

The conflict kitchen and the waffle shop are both innovative ideas that not only provide great food, but discussion and mind stimulations. Its good to see that the conflict kitchen is growing and the idea of it is progressing. Its good to know that more people have become interested not only in the food but the basis behind it.
