Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow

TheSwitch: Here are some photos of the opening of Bolshoi Theatre. Bolshoi means 'big' in Russian, and indeed this magnificent place a big role in Russia's cultural evolution. This same theatre has hosted many shows, inviting not only spectators whose interest lays in Russian culture but also annually hosting shows for Russia's elite. After six years of reconstruction and 700 million dollars of investment the theatre is finally open.

This is truly amazing to see. This is a beautiful space and the fact that they were able to restore it now is equally impressive. It seems to be a great place to put up operas but the boxes seem to be very far away from the stage. It will be interesting to see if they can make back the investment by filling this monster to capacity. It will be interesting going forward how many spaces of this magnitude are restored or built and if they can be kept busy or if they will sit dark.
