Seth Rudetsky builds laughs while deconstructing Broadway voices

Post Gazette: Seth Rudetsky's "Big Fat Broadway Show" requires a fistful of tissues. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll cry again from laughing until your sides ache. The word "unique" gets thrown around a lot but rarely is it as apt as describing Mr. Rudetsky's kooky one-man show, which doubles as a master class in deconstructing the voices that dominate Broadway, pop music and 1970s DVDs. He lip syncs and dances along with the likes of Barbra Streisand, Liza, Cher and The Brady Bunch (making video and audio appearances) but follows the beat of his own daffy drummer when it comes to deconstructing vocal qualities.

Wow I really like the concept of this show. To summarize, I love this example: "His mother yelling 'Put that down!' in a head voice, not such a big deal. If she had added vibrato? Tony Award." There are subtle differences in the way we say things that can make a phenomenal difference in how we interpret them. He's really deconstructing enunciation in particular, and how that can informs us how we identify (famous)voices.

Can I just say I LOVE THIS MAN!?!?!? Not only are his shows absolutely hilarious due to his over the top bubbly personality, he is also incredibly musically skilled and has a knack for meshing his two biggest talents (being fierce and breaking down songs) into one. I listen to his shows on Sirius XM constantly because he doesn't just announce song titles: he tells stories about shows, explains why a lyric or phrase has the effect it does, why a singer does it well, etc. It gives a really fun new layer to the already awesome music!

My mom and I used to listen to Seth Rudetsky on the Broadway station on her Sirius Radio, and he always made us laugh. It's great to se someone unafraid to tastefully poke fun at different Broadway stars, kind of bringing these people into being more relatable to Rudetsky's listeners. He's pretty glamourous himself, and he's always willing to get a good laugh. I think there should be more Broadway commentators like him.
