Pittsburgh Opera renews contract of general director Hahn

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: It's "encore" for Christopher Hahn at Pittsburgh Opera. His contract as general director has been extended to 2016. Hahn joined the company in 2000 as artistic director and assumed his present post in 2008, following the departure of Mark Weinstein. "I am delighted that I will continue to expand on the great relationship I have had with this company over the past 11 years," Hahn said. "I'm looking very much forward to the next five years, and am particularly excited about the fact we will be celebrating the company's 75th anniversary season in two years. We have some exciting things planned.

I think it is good that the Pittsburgh Opera feels confident with the leadership they already have. There are advantages and disadvantages to keeping the same people in leadership positions. On one hand you have someone who knows your organization and it's history. For example what has worked and what hasn't worked in the past. They know the people and are able to navigate the social dynamics of the group. On the other hand bringing in new people often brings in new ideas. Some of which are not successful but others which can be extremely beneficial for the entire company. I would like to see Mr. Hahn start to bring new people in to have new opinions and ideas about the future of the Opera.
