The fact that 'The Bodyguard The Musical' is coming out is a little strange to me. I really liked the movie, but I cant really picture it as a musical. However, Heather Headley is really very talented and if anyone can belt out a bunch of Whitney while being scared for her life she probably can. I dont remember what she sounded like in Lion King, but I have listened to her numerous times on the Aida soundtrack, and she has a lot of power. I hope that this show does well enough to make it over here and then maybe Ill see what is like to watch a Bruce Willis type of character sing

Oh I am a huge fan of Heather Headley and I loved the movie "The Bodygurad" (I've watched it more than 10 times). I think that it will be interesting as a musical, I just hope that it doesn't end up being more of a play with music. The only problem that I have with it is that I can't imagine dance acts in "The Bodyguard", but this is a good oportunity for Heather, she has a really powerful voice. I do wonder what it would have been like if Jennifer Hudson has gotten the role!

But why? This is an action movie that takes place in many different locations. To the extent that there's a dramatic arc in there, why is it served by doing it as a musical? That puts the emphasis on Heather's character rather than on the relationship between her and the bodyguard.

The theme song from this movie is particularly memorable, so all other songs would dwindle in its shadow. This musical would also probably be better received in the US than across the pond, so I'm not sure why they're starting it there.

This movie makes perfect sense in being adapted as a musical. The movie itself has song and dance and I'll be interested to see how Headley conveys the deep fear that Rachel has when she comes to realize that the threat against her life is very real. The movie took the viewer on an emotional roller-coaster as both male and female lead transform from stoic characters with their own self-interest and power issue to character that truly trust and care about one another and in the end love each other. I think this will be very interesting to see on stage. I'm also excited to hear a fresh talent sing some Whitney as she herself can't sing like she used to.
