BIM is something that has saved architects quite a bit of time in software like Revit, and will hopefully be adopted by theatrical designers to improve workflow and consistency where there is redundant information. I am also excited to see the new curtain and focusing tools in Spotlight, since the main advantage that Vectorworks has over AutoCAD for us its specificity with regard to theatrical design, so further development of lighting design tools will lead to further advantages to the end user.

It is great to see that Nemetchek is still adding new features and tweaks to Spotlight since it is the standard for plotting theatrical lighting design. It wouldn't surprise me if a company that handles a diverse array of customers created a product such as spotlight to fit our niche but then put very little effort in improving it since they pretty much have a monopoly in the niche. These new improvements sound great and I can't wait to see what will come in future years.

Once again there is a new version of Vectorworks. They are going to charge their current users a ton of money if they wish to upgrade to the new version of the software. I wish that when you buy their programs you get X number of updates of the program. When you pay for the updates sometimes the update is not better then what you have. It also may have a lot of bugs in it and be more clunky to get working. I think they should at least they should give you a trial of the update to see if you want to pay out the money for the program. I hope that this new version of Vectorworks is easy to pick up if your used to the older versions of the program.
