REP production looks at finding more than a 'lost boy'

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: The relationship between mother and child often is a subject for exploration in Shadyside playwright Tammy Ryan's works. In her most recent play, "Lost Boy Found in Whole Foods," Ryan widens her scope to give it a global perspective, says Sheila McKenna, who is directing the production that begins performances tonight at the Pittsburgh Playhouse in Oakland as a part of the 2011-12 season of The REP, Point Park University's professional theater company,.

I remember in Directing II that Jed said that grocery stores weer one of the most interesting places to go and people watch. With that in mind I am very interested to see a show where the two characters meet in a whole foods and go from being strangers to having a deeply transformative relationship. There's a certain aspect about going to the grocery store that is both social and isolationary becuase you are wrapped up in what you have to get but you are surrounded by people doing the very same thing. So, to start a conversation about a papaya and end up opening your home to a refugee is a very interesting progression that is made all the more compelling by the setting of these two peoples' meeting.
