Making a Fake Newspaper

Props: I found myself making a few fake newspapers this past year. One was for this summer’s All’s Well That Ends Well at Shakespeare in the Park. The director, Dan Sullivan, wanted Lafew to read a newspaper with the headline “King Lives” emblazoned on the front. The production was set in and around World War I.

This prop master had some really good tips. This summer I had to make news papers for a show that was at the turn of the century, what we did was find a website that sells fake papers from different time periods, which granted is a lot less exciting. This sounds both time intensive and difficult but creates a really impressive product at the end. I also never thought about the copy-write stuff although that is very important. I find that paper props are some of the hardest to produce because either they have to be perfect because I machine mass produced them or they have to look hand made which in it's own right can be equally as hard.
