As people are struggling to by food and a roof over their head, buying theater tickets is the last thing on their minds. As a result, theaters all over the country are facing necessary changes to their marketing, sales, and production strategy. One of the best ways to save money is to reduce replication of tasks. Theaters should band together to reduce the amount of work each theater does on its own and moving it to a larger cooperation of many arts organizations. Another change that theaters are facing is the continued failure of the subscription model of selling tickets. Theater patrons are unwilling to shell out that much money at one time for tickets to an event months in the future. Many industries are facing important changes in their business models, theaters are just the next ones to head down that path.

It is interesting to see that some of the changes mentioned in the article are not directly linked to money. Denver's Curious theater wants to more fully integrate theater artists into their permanent staffing structure.
