AutoCAD 2012: First Look at Rectangular Arrays

The CAD Geek Blog: "Along with their complete line of 2012 products, Autodesk told the world about AutoCAD 2012 (now shipping) during their annual product launch event. While individual products were certainly an important component of the product launch event, they were not the most important element. More importantly was the way Autodesk will assemble its product portfolio into a series of industry-focused suites. I’ll spend more time on Autodesk product suites in a later post, but first I wanted to take a look at one of my favorite features inside AutoCAD 2012 – a completely redesigned ARRAY command.

This redesign of the array command looks pretty handy. In its current state, array is a very technical command - you have to know the exact spacing you need, and once it's created, you can't change it without starting over. It's great that you can now edit the array once it's created, and just do a quick, sketchy one if that's all you need. Autodesk continues to streamline the CAD process.

I like this update alot. I can see this making CNC sheet nesting or manipulating a floor treatment on a ground plan going faster. I would have to play with it some but i like the ability to play with the objects relations with each other without having a bunch of different arrays that you overlay to compare.

This is a pretty cool feature that they just came out with. One problem I see with this rectangular arrays tool is that it must take a lot of computer power to do this at lest it seems like it dose. And with AutoCAD already have a large foot print on many computers this may make a lot of people upgrade there computers so that they can run this new and updated AutoCAD. Also hearing that they are coming out with different versions of AutoCAD for different industries it seems like what Vectorworks has done and AutoCAD seems to be trying the something’s. I am anxious to get my hands on a new version of AutoCAD to see how well it works.
