Union chiefs travel to Hollywood to get film work for Massachusetts

The Boston Globe: "Boston union chiefs traveled to Hollywood this week to deliver a message to film studio honchos: We’re good guys. Really.
Not long ago, local trade unionists who worked on television and movie sets had a reputation for adding unnecessary costs and workers to a job. According to one union leader, “a few greedy people’’ even peddled movie scripts and rental properties to out-of-town producers or demanded film roles from directors on the set.
“We’ve had a sordid past in the motion-picture industry,’’ said Sean M. O’Brien, president of the Teamsters Local 25.

Recently Massachusetts especially boston and Danvers areas have been rising to power in the east cost film scene. recently they have open over 20 new studios and sound stages and have a government projected investment of over one hundred million dollars through 2012. Massachusetts is after the title Orlando and central florida held through the nineties as hollywood east. (thier is even a hollywood east sign constructed in Northern Boston) however this part of the process is what challenged central florida and the prospects of hollywood east the most. getting union interest is always the challenge. most of the failure of the Orlando Film scene had to do with a lack of union interest and several greedy government moves. i would hate to see this new hollywood east getting caught in the same rut.
