Shakespeare Is Everywhere in New York These Days

NYTimes.com: "THIS is the last weekend to see the New York production of “The Merchant of Venice” starring an Academy Award winner in one of Shakespeare’s greatest roles, Shylock the moneylender.

Is there such thing as too much shakespeare? There's so many complaints about lack of federal funding, but if so many companies are producing classics like shakespeare and not taking large risks on "American Works" how can there be a national artistic identity even present in the mind of those determining the spending of arts funding.
