Play Readings at New York Theaters

NYTimes.com: "NEW Yorkers love nothing more than to boast, “I was there first,” whether it’s getting a reservation at a buzzworthy restaurant, snatching up the latest handbag or seeing a new film before the rest of the country.

I think that the comment "people like to see the mistakes we make" is very apt for readings. I think that that would be one of the reasons to see readings, besides the reason of going to see readings to see what was new and up coming with the theater scene. I also think it's interesting that as a theater viewer you can be in charge of saying what you see on stage. In the article they imply that by laughing or falling asleep you can change the whole direction of the play. That's a lot of power. Readings are defiantly for the regular theater viewer because if you do not know a lot about theater or do not regularly attend, then readings probably would bore me. I think that seeing a reading and then going to see the actual production is a pretty great progression. It means that you can feel like you were part of the process and I think that's why New Yorkers like it so much.
