Stage musical 'Xanadu' reimagines and pokes fun at the original film that inspired it

I dont think that all theater has to have a purpose other than for the pure enjoyment of the work. I don't think I would want to watch it more than once, but I like that I don't have to worry about getting a "message".....just sing-song Musical Theater that gets stuck in your head and annoys everyone when you sing it out loud!
I agree that theatre can just be for entertainment purposes without any real greater purpose or meaning, but I'm glad that they fleshed out some of the ideas and characters from the movie. Its nice that they include Kira learning to paint and create rather than just serve. It also nice that they included the antagonistic sister and added more depth to the characters. I feel that that keeps the entertainment value while giving it that missing "brain in its head".
