Father-daughter team make lights 'dance' in Hershey

Lebanon Daily News: "Think it's a pain getting the lights on your Christmas tree to all function properly?
Try hooking up 125,000 lights, then synchronize them all to make them 'dance' to music.
The father-daughter team of Larry Perini and Nikki Perini-Hollinger, both of Lebanon, recently played a leading role in setting up the dancing lights of Hersheypark's N.O.E.L. display.
And, they only had a week to get it right."

Doing the whole Christmas Light Synchronization thing is quite the undertaking...I personally do it at home and have 3 days to get it up and running...although all the programming is complete by that time. I don't have as many lights, but I do have to set up the lights during that 3 day period. I am always happy when the show is all put together and working completely. Disney also does the holiday light thing as well, but they use quite a few more lights and start working on installation in August. It would be interesting to do to the park to see what the lights are like...maybe I will find some time once classes are done.

These synchronizations are always incredible. They look amazing with all the lights, on trees, houses, statues, everything coming together to make one cool show. I am excited to be going to Disney this holiday season and hope to see some of there lights. Best of luck to dmxwidget on his undertaking, I hope it turned out well. And best of luck to those at Hershey!

I could never imagine working with my dad every day. That said, I think it really cool that this father passed along his passion to his children. It must be nice to have the whole family really enjoy something all together.

These type of light shows are always very impressive. For me it isn't the light show that "blows my mind" but the use of christmas lights. I hate christmas lights, they are always breaking and dying and failing. So I am always most impressed that people can get that many christmas lights to actually function.

Honestly, they should have just called Matt up to do the project. It would have been done in one day. With the advance of lighting technology it is not surprising people expect more than chases and twinkling from the Christmas lights. With snow machines, lights, carolers, and storytelling, it was only a matter of time before the Christmas spirit was full blown modern entertainment.I miss those days when it was only used to exploit sales revenues.

I think this is always really cool when they do these spectacular shows for Christmas. I think it would be really neat to be able to use something like that in a stage performance. And the fact that these two people had only a week to get it done is really amazing. Its great how you can work through something like that when the pressure is on. And the fact they had each other to bounce ideas off of is always a big bonus.

These synchronizations are always amazing and worth seeing. I am impressed that they manage to get so many christmas lights to actually function at the same time! They are always breaking! I'd love to see how we would try something similar in the round as a performance piece.
