Going Dutch - Rodgers and Hammerstein Catalog Sold to Imagem

NYTimes.com: "The estates of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II have sold the rights to the legendary duo’s songs and musicals — including “South Pacific,” “The Sound of Music” and “Oklahoma!” — to Imagem Music Group, an investment arm of a huge Netherlands-based pension fund, the company announced on Tuesday."

This is very sad to me.

I'm from St. Louis, MO - and recently Anheuser-Busch was sold to the Belgian company Inbev. There was such controversy in my community - but I didn't really relate, as I had not lived in the city long enough to understand the influence of this long standing company.

I would imagine that the way I feel right now about R&H being sold to Imagem is very similar to the people of St. Louis regarding the sale of Anheuser-Busch.

I feel that musical theatre is so important to this country - as it is one of the arts that we have excelled in - and currently are a leader in.

Although they will still retain the same management as before, it still bothers me that we're even selling out our art.
