Business Card Star Makes At-Home Card Printing a Snap

Lifehacker: "Think about the per-card cost of most commercial business card printers, and you'll likely feel a bit taken. Business Card Star makes designing and printing a professional, eye-catching card at home a viable alternative."

This site is very cool. The templates make the business cards are fast and easy to make. And there are so many templates, all of which can be changed in color, text style, and placement of items. The business cards are very flexible, yet give you a great place to start. The ability to print them at home is super nice too, that way you don't have to spend more money on the printer.

www.ooprint.com offers 100 free business cards for Carnegie Mellon students. You pay a small shipping fee, but otherwise it is very worth it for a college student looking for summer jobs. I view both of these options as a great "start" for an undergrad. Once we graduate, perhaps we should shell out a little more than a shipping cost for professional looking business cards.

I love the idea of designing your own business cards. Personal touches like the ones offered can really differentiate you in a future employer's mind. Also, it seems, though a bit basic, also easy to use. And the factthat you can print them at home? I'm sold.

While this is a nice function and is nice if speed is of the utmost importance, the ability to print at home is nice. However, for anything that would be used professionally, I believe that in a competitive market, a home-printed business card falls flat. The little pieces of perforated paper that stops the card from fitting nicely into anything just annoy potential employers. This is normally the thing that you use to represent yourself one you are gone, so the better presented this is, the better you look. While this is unfortunate, it is true.

I don't expect this to count as one of my comments, as it has nothing to do with this article,
