Sondheim Stalls, Spidey Cools Heels in Broadway’s Cash Crisis
Bloomberg.com: Arts and Culture: "Not even a tin cup in the outstretched hand of Stephen Sondheim was enough to save the $4.5 million Broadway tryout of his new musical, “iSondheim.” The show is the latest to face setbacks resulting from Broadway’s worsening cash crunch -- even as costs continue to spiral out of control."

To see the works of a big name like Sondheim take a hit from the economy is worrying. If even big names can't hold onto venues how will new works and directors make it? Its a sad foreshadowing of how hard the next few years will be.
It's really saddening to see such a great playwright, like Sondheim, hurting from the economic crises we're in. Like Natalie said, if the big names can't make it, how are we going to get the little guys who have the brand new ideas to come up with some great stuff, and really survive out there? Hopefully this isn't foreshadowing the future, and it's just a glitch in Sondheim's creative juices.
I think that the new economic crisis is ushering opportunities for minimalist shows like "Someone to Watch Over Me" to flourish. Rather than become saddened, let's see what we can do with less cash. How can we cut to the bare minimium and still put on a great show? We don't need bells and whistles to entertain.
