'Wicked' writer explores phenomenon

Variety: "Gregory Maguire's first adult novel spent 26 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, but it took almost 10 years to get there.
After nearly two decades of writing children's books, Maguire wrote 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' in 1995."

It depresses me that Wicked is becoming such a money suck. If Maguire used the sequel to go to new greater places then that would be great, but I read Son of a Witch with high expectation, and was wildly disappointed.
Generally, he has become a wildly disappointing author.
