I'm astounded that lighting and sound only contributes 9% while FOH is contributing up to 35% of carbon emissions. I assume refitting venues with more efficient AC systems is too costly and out of the question, but it will be interesting to see how little changes will affect the greater outcome. They speak of audience transportation as being another factor not included in this, but I wonder if theatres can create incentives for audiences to take public transportation, and how costly that could be.

I too was shocked--I thought for sure the growing use of high-power lighting, sound, and misc stage equipment amounts to about 9%. Somebody needs to get on the FOH people about their emissions.

I find it a tad ironic how many so-called "tree huggers" I know in theatre. Part of me likes to think that if they're "real tree huggers" they wouldn't be in this business; we produce so much garbage, use so much energy, and we're just now becoming concerned about energy costs and environmental effects. I'm anxious to see what sorts of technology and changes will be made in the future in regards to being green.
