SCT brings out some hungry, dancing "Living Dead"

Seattle Times Newspaper: "When it comes to entertainment for children, what could possibly appeal to them more than the living dead killing people and eating their flesh?
Forget Anne Frank and 'Our Town.' Seattle Children's Theatre (SCT) is taking on another classic: 'Night of the Living Dead.'"

This is definitely a different production to be performed for a children's theater unconventional one might add! I don't understand why children should be exposed to such gore and violence, plus the sheer scare factor. I'm not saying that children's theater should all be bubblegum and sunshine pieces but a little discretion is all that is needed.

Yup, that sounds like something my hometown would do. It seems like a long shot, but I know a few folks with young kids who are interested in going. It'll be interesting to see how it goes over.

This sounds fantastic. Night of the Living Dead is almost a Pittsburgh cultural icon in its own weird way, and it would definitely be interesting to see a stage version of it. However, I think it's misleading to call it a kid's show when it's intended for those thirteen and older. "Kid's show" implies an intention for a much younger audience.

Theater is all about reinvention and innovation, and I think taking something that may not be traditionally considered material for a younger audience, and remaking it to be appropriate is a great example of this reinvention. It must also be noted that there are clear differences between film and theater that may make a staged production of this film more palatable for a young audience. Kids are exposed to a great deal at a young age these days, doing it in a way that incorporates art and demonstrates a fresh point of view may be the best way to do it.
