In Need of More Tech, '9 to 5' Previews Will Now Begin Later
Yahoo! News: "Michael Ritchie, CTG artistic director, said in a statement, 'I hate disappointing these early preview audiences, but thankfully we have the ability to add performances later in the run to help re-locate our audiences. And once they see the show, they will understand why we are taking the extra time to meet this musical's large technical demands. 9 to 5: The Musical is one of the biggest shows ever produced at the Ahmanson, and big shows, with this quality of cast and creative team deserve the utmost support in their development. To do any less would be a disservice to all.'"

I'm really curious as to what the technical demands were that came up that made them delay the opening. Was it a last minute change to design? Or maybe something took longer than expected? Mostly, because you don't ever want to cancel a show (preview or performance). Hopefully, the show will be a success, and the choice they made was a proper choice.
That show was built by a couple different shops on a really tight schedule. I'm not totally surprised they had to delay previews.
I agree with Liz--something pretty epic has to be happening to justify cancelling a performance. However, with such a well-qualified award-winning creative team, I feel that the end result will be worth the delay.
