Digital Manufacturing

Modern Woodworking - September 2008: There are some new buzz words going around the Georgia Tech campus these days - digital manufacturing. At least that's what students are calling what's going on at the College of Architecture's Advanced Wood Product Laboratory.

This is real cool. I mean why are we not doing this. So often whenever something cool is happening in the academic arena we wonder why Carnegie Mellon is not on top of this. But man, this stuff is cool. Maybe it is because there is some deep down little part of me that thinks furniture design is really cool.
But really. I just want to learn to CNC furniture, cause I think that would just be too much fun. And the fact that Crate and Barrel were involved is very impressive.

This sounds so awesome, it just shows how technology is increasing constantly, I would have never imagined something like this would exist, but this is just remarkable.

There was an exhibit at MOMA about a year ago that included furniture that was constructed by this (or a similar) process. The increase in range and variety is astounding is the resources are there to support it.
