Cowardly season lineup not good for cultural health of Las Vegas

ReviewJournal.com: "Producers owe it to their playhouses to be concerned about a healthy box office, but do producers owe anything to the community? -- especially an artistically hurting community like Vegas?"

The interesting question posed in this article is if producers owe the community a certain quality of art. In a town like Las Vegas, art is such a foreign term in such a commercial atmosphere, but the competition must be absolutely outrageous. How does a local playhouse compete with the limitless expenses of some of Vegas' other venues. The artistic integrity of a city shouldn't be based solely off of how much money is available, but it does make a significant impact.

The answer to that question is: YES! Signature Productions is a not-for-profit organization, and they state that their goal is "to provide a venue for young performers, designers and technicians to grow and develop their natural abilities while veteran performers, designers and technicians teach and inspire!" As a non-profit, the company has an obligation to serve the community, and they shouldn't worry about ticket sales quite as much. It seems like doing the same shows over and over doesn't really help anybody grow or develop their talents. Signature Productions needs to read their mission statement and re-evaluate what they're doing.
