`Bonesetter' Combines Spectacle, Evocative Words, Tedious Music

Bloomberg.com: Muse Arts: "So vivid are Amy Tan's novels of Chinese-American life in San Francisco, and so adventurous is that city's opera company, that you'd think it only natural for the two forces to join in lively entertainment."

I do not fully understand the writers attempt to be so sarcastic towards the show but I think that it sounds extremely intriguing. With all the different elements, however momentarily they may be, seem to fit the story well and keep feeding the audience. Exspecially the sound and the intricate music must be completely fulfilling because that was one of the only things that the writer did particularly liked. All in all, I think the show would be a pleasent surprise even if the initial reaction might have been a bit upsetting.

Last week there seemed to be a lot of commentary on turning movies into musicals; now we have books turning into musicals. I imagine that's an even more difficult process, so I feel that the standards should not be too high when reviewing it.

I appreciate the respect this critic displays in the beginning towards both the author and the creative team. The truth is some projects just don't work. On the other hand some critics are just misguided and I'm wondering if that is the case here. It would appear that all these interesting elements work together to create an almost new sense of theatre. Amy Tan is an amazing author and I would expect nothing less from her. I think I would like to see this show actually.
