Autodesk Releases Maya 2009

Desktop Engineering: "At SIGGRAPH 2008, Autodesk, Inc. (San Rafael, CA) announced Autodesk Maya 2009 3D animation and visual effects software, released in celebration of the software's 10-year anniversary. Maya 2009 includes a host of advancements in modeling, animation, rendering and effects that maximize productivity, optimize workflows, and provide new creative possibilities, says the company."

I wonder if Maya 2009 is going to get the same facelift AutoCAD did. I would assume so since the two programs are designed to export into the other...

I haven't used maya since version 5 or 6 when it was still Alias|Wavefront software... And even back then it was doing things like 3D animations for the Matrix... Best I did was make a 3D claw hammer

I'm curious what they actually updated for it. I know it's a beast once you got a project going in it but I wonder where they went with render updates.

At least you can play with it for free on their website. Downside being the educational watermark on everything.

I love Maya, but I'm not sure how I feel about it getting made over. I sat down with AutoCAD 09 yesterday, stared at the new look for a while, and realized I had no idea where anything was anymore. I don't want that to happen to Maya too.
