Asian women front and center

StarTribune: "Cast as Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz,' an Asian-American performer begins to sing the show's big number, 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.' But as soon as she launches into what should be her glorious turn, some uninvited other characters start to ambush her onstage."

When I read the little blub I thought that an actual "mob" member accosted an actress while she was performing. I am glad this was not the case. But I am a bit confused about the total premise of the play. Is it a completely silent (no dialogue) show? or is it just the scene mentioned. I think it'd be awfully hard to have a show with absolutely no dialogue.... but I'm glad this writer is giving Asian women a chance to highlight their abilities. it doesn't come too often.

I thought the same thing as Ariel when I read the blurb. I'm glad to find that there is an article that is addressing race issues that aren't just black/white. Its nice to see it done in a fun and still meaningful way.

hooray Asians. We have to remember that sometimes its especially hard for an Asian actor to get cast over other ethnicities, mostly because nobody really knows what to do with them...uh...us. More and more now we see that being addressed, but even so, its hard to say the kind of progress that has actually been made.
