01SJ FEATURES LOCAL STARS

ARTSHIFT San José: "SJSU graduate student, Sarah Lowe, is fabricating an inflatable and ephemeral 25-foot-tall monument titled Ice Age on Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park on Saturday night, June 7 2008. With a footprint of over 58 feet by 30 feet this inflatable iceberg and performative sculpture will anchor one end of the plaza from 2pm to 10pm and is probably best viewed at night. Construction of Ice Age is currently taking place in the Berkeley Repertory Theater’s scene shop in West Oakland."

This sounds really cool! I'd love to go see it. It's always awesome when installations integrate the audience in real time with an issue that is relevant. I've heard a lot of things about global warming and the change in climate but the delivery method hardly ever makes me think about it for very long.

Wow...this looks intriguing! Its actually alot similar to one particular ice art sculpture that i saw in Chicago a few months ago. It was also bets viewed at night and would change color as the temperature changed! This present piece also seems not only like a sumptuous sculpture that appeals to the eye but an appealing advertisement against global warming, something our entire population could use to be reminded of!
