The Vagina Monologues

The Tartan Online: "Last week, an ensemble cast and crew made up of Carnegie Mellon students and faculty put on The Vagina Monologues, an award–winning play that showcases the vagina — and all the pleasure and pain that come with having one — through a series of short dialogues. Each of the 16 monologues was performed by either the ensemble cast or a single actor, usually seated in a couch or chair. A total of 18 Carnegie Mellon women were involved with the production of the show, ranging from first-years all the way to the associate dean at the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management."

These are my two favorite quotes from the paper

"an award–winning play that showcases the vagina — and all the pleasure and pain that come with having one"
and
"associate dean at the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management."

Yay for them, they did the Vagina Monologues, on Valentines day. The article bothers me because it tries to be funny while telling the reader that it was not meant to be a funny show. I think they got a bit over-excited at the fact that they got to say vagina a million times in a school newspaper.

Did CMU actually perform the vagina monologues? Am I so disconnected from the campus community that I had no idea? Sad. A little note to the writer... Calling very serious monologues about rape and mutilation "skits" makes this performance seem less serious than it probably was. Here's to Eve Ensler, who doesn't charge people to perform her wonderful play!
