Writers going back to the table, sources say

Los Angeles Times: "Spurred by the day-old employment contract negotiated by the Directors Guild, Hollywood's writers and the major studios agreed Friday to resume their negotiations in hopes of reaching an agreement that would end the 11-week-old strike, according to several people close to the matter."

I am excited that the DGA had the guts to step forth and negotiate deals concerning the new media practices in the industry. The issue of course is what happens when the next new media hits us. The DGA deal includes a add-supported streaming and a clause about addressing new media as it comes up. What they didn't address (at least it doesn't say they did on their website) is the issues concerning downloading shows off the internet via iTunes and other sources. That's what the WGA seems to want to address, is ALL new medias including cellular, downloaded and streamed. I like the forward step that the DGA has taken, but it sounds to me that the WGA doesn't want to have to renegotiate everytime a new form becomes popular.
