Grinch May Reopen Prior to Thanksgiving; Union Not Picketing St. James

Playbill News: "Grinch general manager David Waggett told Playbill.com Nov. 19 that picket lines have come down in front of the St. James Theatre, where Grinch makes its home, and Local One has agreed to work the show. However, the producers of Grinch still need to gain approval from Jujamcyn Theaters, who own the St. James."

I understand the producers' anxiety having Thanksgiving weekends right up our face. But for the sake of the strike and unsettled agreement, I don't think it is necessarily good idea to break in these exceptions, because it will start with one show, and when you don't realize, the crew will be back. And that's not healthy for their long-term relationship

What makes me curious about the talks of reopening this show is that will this become the way of slowly bringing back theatre to broadway. By this I mean; will there be negotiations on a show by show basis or is this just one special exception and if this is the new format of hiring stage hands what will it continue on for a long period of time...

I do wonder about the relationship between the Local’s who are going back to work and those who are still on the picket lines. Is their some animosity that the Grinch stagehands started as supporters, and now have turned their backs?
On a separate note, bravo to the general manager of Grinch for creating this separate contract. It may have been out of necessity, but for such a high volume, short time span run, there is no room for error.
